The Tesla Model X is an amazing luxury SUV that is powered by electricity. It was introduced as a concept in 2012 before finally reaching production in 2015. It has a coupe-style roof and a sleek, bold design. Another stunning feature is its unique falcon wing doors, which open like a bird about to take off. The vehicle has seating for seven and plenty of cargo space. But what if it were even bigger?
What if the roofline were higher, enabling it to have more room for third-row passengers and possibly extra seating. I set out to make this happen, not in real-life, but in a digital rendering.
I started off by using a liquify tool in Pixlr E, a free online photo editing tool. The liquifly tool makes it easy to stretch or modify the image. The liquify tool raised the Model X’s roof line, but then the image looked distorted and unrealistic. So I went to Autodesk Sketchbook and used a variety of tools to correct the image. Finally I added new wheels, “removed” the wing doors by changing the position of the door handles, and added a roof box.
I really like the finished result. It looks similar to a minivan, but it does not have sliding doors. I call it the Tesla Model XL (extra large). While it may not look as sporty as the X, it is more practical and better for long trips.
Here is a time-lapse of the whole process:
